Clear the room. Keep the plan simple.

A home refurbishment can involve several different waste streams. List what the work will remove, including fixtures and packaging, and declare electrical or upholstered items before choosing a load.

  • Describe the wasteTell us about timber, packaging, garden material or rubble. Declare anything unusual before loading.
  • Choose a suitable spaceAllow for the delivery vehicle and the skip. A small container still arrives on a much larger vehicle.
  • Agree the complete planConfirm the price, allowed load, hire period and collection arrangements before booking.

The right waste. In the right place.

These are starting points for the booking conversation. The operator must approve your exact waste and load.

Usually worth discussing

  • Timber, cardboard and suitable packaging
  • Garden trimmings and non-hazardous vegetation
  • Suitable household and renovation waste
  • Declared soil, bricks and rubble, within an agreed weight limit

Keep out of an ordinary mixed load

  • Asbestos, chemicals, liquid paint and oils
  • Gas bottles, batteries and electrical appliances
  • Tyres and other items needing specialist arrangements
  • Undeclared plasterboard, mattresses or upholstered seating

Make room for the delivery lorry.

Delivery planning belongs in the site briefing. Give the driver’s contact the entrance details, any time restrictions and a clear placement point, with room left for collection.

  • Width and heightMeasure gates and note overhanging branches, cables and low entrances.
  • Surface and turningExplain slopes, soft ground, covers and any tight turn. Ask about suitable surface protection.
  • The return journeyKeep the approach open for collection and do not move the skip yourself.
Discuss your delivery access

Plan it. Load it. Clear it.

Plan the load

Name the materials, estimate the volume and explain access. Mention heavy waste or unusual items now.

Confirm the delivery

Agree the skip, price and dates. Resolve road permissions and give the driver a clear approach.

Keep the job moving

Load only the agreed materials. Arrange collection or discuss an exchange with suitable notice.

Have your postcode and waste details ready.

Your skip hire questions, answered.

How much will my skip cost?

A trade quote needs a waste plan: materials, estimated load, site address and collection or exchange needs. Call 0330 912 9966 to discuss those details before booking.

How long can I keep the skip?

If work happens in stages, explain that before booking. Agree when the container is needed, how collection is requested and whether an exchange can be arranged.

Can I fill it above the sides?

No. Keep everything at or below the marked fill line and within the agreed load. If the pile is larger than expected, call to discuss the next step rather than overfilling.

Will a small skip fit through a small gate?

A site entrance that admits a van may not suit the skip vehicle. Discuss gate openings, turning space and any restrictions before giving a delivery instruction.
